Let's Get Women on Board - Could You be a Mentor?

March 2015

Mentor poster 3

Key to the Women Making a Difference (WMAD) programme is our Mentoring and Role Shadowing element, as this offers women the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of public and political life. Being mentored gives women the confidence to take control of their own journey, empowering them to plan their future and capitalise on their potential. The role shadowing provides a unique opportunity to gain the knowledge, experience, and understanding of how to successfully apply ‘on merit’ in future calls for members and trustees.

We are currently looking for current School Governors, Magistrates, and Board Members of various charity organisations and Public Service Bodies, to mentor some of our incredible women to become more involved with decision making.

The Wales We Want Report: a Report on behalf of Future Generations

TWWWMarch 2015

Today was the launch of The Wales We Want Report: a Report on behalf of Future Generations.

The National Conversation heard directly from the people of Wales about the most important issues for them in improving their lives and those of their families, communities and businesses. It is an opportunity to look beyond the short term pressures of daily life and focus on our long term legacy. The National Conversation on 'The Wales We Want' is a pilot project following the former Minister for Communities and Tackling Poverty, Jeff Cuthbert AM, asking the Commissioner for Sustainable Futures, Peter Davies, to enhance our understanding about the long term issues that future generations in Wales might face.

This report sets out the seven foundations for the well-being of future generations, which is the culmination of a year-long National Conversation.

You can read the news story here or download the report.

Your chance to shape UK priorities on gender equality

November 2014

Do you think women's lives in the UK have changed for the better or worse in the past five years?equalities

We recently tweeted the link to a survey launched by The UK Government's Equalities Office to collect views on improving the lives of women and girls in the UK.

The UK Government has commissioned the survey in order to hear your views on which issues regarding gender equality matter the most to you. It features questions to identify the greatest barriers to improving the lives of women and girls and asks what the Government should make a priority in the future.

The Minister for Women and Equalities Nicky Morgan said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for individual women, men and civil society groups to have their voices heard on gender equality. Almost 20 years ago the UK signed the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action to end gender inequality and now we want to hear from you."

We are thrilled that our former Project Manager, Paula Manley was acknowledged for her great work in the New Year Honours List and will receive an MBE for her services to empowering Women and under-represented groups.

Paula managed the Women Making a Difference project from its inception in 2005 till 2013. She designed and developed the WMAD training programme for women, which was recognised as being a model of best practice in Wales for educating and empowering women to become more active leaders in their local communities and decision makers in public and political life.

Paula retired from the project last year but continues to be involved as I'm sure you'll all join us in wishing Paula a big congratulations!
